Job Description
Job Purpose
The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician is responsible for carrying out preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities on all electrical and instrumentation within the Rwanda bulk blending fertilizer (RBBF Plant), also coordinate control room operations by monitoring and operating the plant process systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical and instrumentation maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical motors and related equipment.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical panels, MCCs, breakers, contactors, relays, and power distribution systems.
- Carry out maintenance of plant lighting systems, including indoor lighting and streetlights.
- Perform routine inspection and maintenance of the plant power generator and associated auxiliary systems in electrical room.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and fields instrument faults to minimize plant downtime.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance according to maintenance schedules and work orders.
- Conduct regular inspection and maintenance of hopper load cells and movable scales.
- Perform monthly inspection, cleaning, and calibration of bagging scales.
- Regular inspection and troubleshoot field instruments such as Inductive sensors, Level sensors, Proximity switches, Limit switches and Solenoid valves.
- Ensure proper functioning of all sensors, safety switches and interlocks used in the blending plant.
- Assist in improving electrical and instrumentation reliability.
Control Room Operations
- Monitor plant operations through SCADA/HMI systems.
- Operate the blending system in accordance with production requirements and operating procedures.
- Monitor alarms, process parameters, and equipment performance from the control room.
- Work closely with technical machine operators and production team during production operations, maintenance day and troubleshooting activities.
- Record operational data, incidents, stoppages, and production information in logbook.
- Ensure smooth start-up and shutdown of plant systems.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all plant safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO)
- requirements.
- Ensure all maintenance and operational activities comply with safety and environmental standards.
- Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Maintain good housekeeping in workshop, generator room, electrical room, control room, and plant areas.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete maintenance reports, inspection checklists, and work orders.
- Report daily operational data such as daily production and plant downtimes.
- Report recurring equipment issues and recommend improvement actions.
Qualifications and Experience
- 1 year and above Experience
- A1 in mechatronics or electrical
- Background in manufacturing industry
