Role Overview
The IT Officer will oversee the organization’s IT systems, focusing on network administration, data protection, and routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. The role demands hands-on technical expertise in managing both hardware and software environments, securing data assets, and proactively maintaining IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical thinking, a commitment to cyber security best practices, and the ability to support end-users effectively under minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Network Administration – Design, implement, and maintain reliable LAN/WAN infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity. Configure routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs to support secure and efficient operations.
- System Maintenance & Technical Support – Perform regular system checks, updates, and backups. Provide prompt IT support to users, troubleshoot technical issues, and minimize downtime.
- Data Security & Protection – Enforce data protection protocols, manage antivirus systems and firewalls, and oversee secure data backup and recovery processes. Ensure compliance with organizational and legal standards on data security.
- Documentation & User Support – Create and maintain IT documentation, including network diagrams, configuration records, and incident reports. Train staff on system use and cyber security awareness.
- IT Infrastructure Upgrades – Participate in planning and implementing IT infrastructure upgrades, including transitioning to modern platforms or cloud services.
- Vendor & Asset Management – Coordinate with IT vendors for procurement, support, and maintenance contracts. Monitor and track IT assets and software licenses.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (mandatory).
Languages:
- Proficiency in English and Kinyarwanda (required).
- French or other languages are an added advantage.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in IT support, system administration, or network management.
Skills:
- Proven knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP), firewall configuration, and VPN technologies.
- Experience with operating systems (Windows/Linux), backup systems, and antivirus solutions.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Microsoft Azure.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple IT issues efficiently.
Certifications (Optional but Preferred):
- CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), or similar.
