The Moyo Center is a Rwanda-based organization working to strengthen inclusive education through teacher training, professional development, research, curriculum development, and community building. Our goal is to help create educational environments where children with disabilities, including children with autism and other learning and developmental differences, can meaningfully learn, participate, and thrive.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for an enthusiastic, practical, and growth-minded Assistant Teacher Trainer – Inclusive Education to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with our Senior Teacher Trainers to co-facilitate professional development, assist in school coaching, support demonstration classrooms, and help design practical learning materials for partner schools.
This role is ideal for an educator with strong classroom experience or early experience in teacher support who is eager to build their skills in adult training, coaching, and inclusive curriculum development.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Assistant Teacher Trainer will support the planning and delivery of training programs that equip teachers with the skills to support learners with diverse needs. The role involves co-facilitating workshops, assisting with classroom observations and follow-ups, supporting resource creation, and contributing to a continuous learning model across partner schools.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Training Assistance & Co-Facilitation
- Assist in preparing and co-delivering interactive, practical training sessions for teachers and school staff.
- Help set up and facilitate workshops, small group discussions, hands-on activities, and classroom simulations.
- Support the gathering of participant feedback and assist in adapting materials to meet teacher needs.
2. Inclusive Education Practice & Support
- Support teachers in implementing foundational inclusive strategies, including differentiated instruction, positive behavior support, classroom accommodations, and communication tools.
- Support strategies tailored for learners with autism, learning disabilities, and other developmental differences.
3. Coaching, Observation & Follow-Up
- Conduct follow-up visits to partner schools to observe classroom practice under the guidance of senior trainers.
- Provide constructive, encouragement-focused feedback to teachers.
- Help model effective inclusive techniques alongside classroom teachers.
- Assist in tracking teacher progress and identifying common classroom challenges.
4. Materials & Content Development
- Assist in drafting and organizing training presentations, handouts, visual aids, and low-cost classroom learning materials.
- Support the contextualization of inclusive education tools for the Rwandan school context.
5. Demonstration Classrooms & Documentation
- Assist in setting up and maintaining model inclusive classrooms.
- Help document success stories, lessons learned, and training data for monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) purposes.
6. Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain positive, respectful relationships with teachers, school administrators, and families during school visits and training events.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required
- Rwandan nationality.
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Education, Special Needs Education, Inclusive Education, Psychology, or a related field
- At least 1 to 3 years of direct teaching experience or early experience assisting in teacher training/coaching.
- Basic understanding of child-centered learning and inclusive education principles.
- Good facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Professional fluency in written and spoken English.
- Fluency in Kinyarwanda.
Strongly Preferred
- Direct experience teaching or supporting learners with autism, intellectual disabilities, or special educational needs.
- Experience creating practical teaching aids or learning materials.
- Familiarity with Rwandan public school contexts and basic inclusive education guidelines.
