Job Description

Job Title: Cashier

Department: Finance & Accounts
Reports To: Senior Accountant / Finance Manager
Location: Kigali, Rwanda

Job Purpose

The Cashier will be responsible for receiving, recording, safeguarding, and disbursing company funds while maintaining accurate cash and payment records. The role ensures that all financial transactions are properly documented and handled in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive cash, cheques, bank transfers, and other payments from clients and tenants.
  • Issue official receipts for all payments received.
  • Record daily cash and other financial transactions accurately.
  • Maintain and update the daily cashbook.
  • Handle payments related to rent, property services, utilities, and other company transactions.
  • Prepare daily cash reports and submit them to the Senior Accountant.
  • Reconcile cash on hand with receipts and accounting records at the end of each working day.
  • Deposit collected cash into the company’s bank account as instructed.
  • Process authorized payments and maintain proper supporting documentation.
  • Maintain proper records of all receipts, payment vouchers, and other financial documents.
  • Assist with bank and cash reconciliations.
  • Follow up on outstanding payments and provide payment information when required.
  • Ensure that cash and financial documents are kept secure and confidential.
  • Report any cash discrepancies, errors, or suspicious transactions to the Senior Accountant.
  • Assist the accounting team with financial records and administrative duties when required.
  • Ensure compliance with company financial procedures and internal controls.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a Cashier, Accounts Assistant, or in a similar financial role is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting and financial procedures.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly.
